Is An Online Mba Program Worth It?

Although the number of students pursuing an online MBA is growing rapidly, research suggests that it might not be worth it. There are some researches like the WSJ study that suggest that most corporate recruiters believe that an online MBA is not as effective as the traditional MBA. Online MBA students lose out in many ways, particularly in the areas of networking, clubs, guest speakers, and interaction with the professors. These are crucial elements in the MBA curriculum that would enhance greatly the learning and skill set of the students. There are so much learning that can happen via group interaction and projects with classmates. Getting to converse with professors are also distinct advantages for the students of the traditional MBA. The WSJ survey found out that 40% of the recruiters said that the online programs were not effective at all. Worse, many companies do not accredit or recognize many online programs. One of the reasons is that a lot of these MBA programs are not accredited and their professors or instructors are not well qualified. These factors should make you think twice before investing a huge amount for an online degree.
