When Is The Best Time To Visit Cancun?

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

Cancun is a very popular vacation desination for all ages. Most would define traveling off-peak as “traveling outside rush-hours to avoid overcrowding in public means of transport.” This sounds all too simple and as we might expect – easier said than done. If you love to be around other tourist than I recommend any time of the year to visit Mexico.

By traveling off-peak, not only will you get cheaper flights and accommodations. You will also gain a difference perspective on travel – especially the added advantage of enjoying your dream destinations without huddling with the masses of tourists during holidays.

And did you know that traveling off-peak means traveling during holidays (not before or after) when airfares are lower and there’s less road traffic?

Best Times To Travel

For both air and car travel, avoid the crowds by traveling during the week, especially from Tuesday through Thursday. An added bonus is that airfares for travel Tuesday through Thursday are usually cheaper.

Mid-morning and late afternoon flights tend to be less crowded, plus you can really avoid commute traffic during this time. This site also offers the load on late-night flights (also known as red-eye flights for obvious reasons): these flights can help you avoid traffic but it’s only effective if you can sleep sitting up-right on a plane!

Some of the most affordable Cancun travel deals of the year can be found in the fall. If you happen to find nonresistable super offer during off-peak dates that fall between major holidays, don’t waste time. Book immediately with your discount travel agent. Never hesitate!

Traveling off-peak to Cancun during the North American winter months rather than during summer is very popular. You might say what’s the point in going to Mexico in winter when you’re going there to savor the beaches? But the fact is, there is hardly such a thing as winter in the Mexico as it stays warm most of the year. In fact, it’s not a good idea to fly there during the peak season (I.e., summer months) as this is the period when the hurricanes usually come.

It also helps to subscribe to online newsletters of discount air travel agents such as Travelocity or Expedia. By having yourself included in these companies’ mailing list, you can get your hands on off-peak travel promotions faster than those who didn’t. So you see, it’s not just the air miles!

Finally, book your flight early to secure the most gains from traveling off-peak. One year’s planning can certainly help you reap the reward of the cheapest airfares possible! On the other hand, booking last minute can also have its rewards. If you’re the kind who can leave at a moment’s notice, you can save a lot from last-minute flights and accommodations. After all, most airlines and hotels would rather greatly discount their seats and rooms than leave them empty!

Job Placement after Training

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

Its a familiar dilemma with any sort of professional training or education: How does one translate what theyve learned into actual employment and experience in the field? When people talk about the Catch-22 of employment and experience, it is precisely this that they are referring to. It can be a frustrating affair knowing that you are as qualified for employment as anybody else in the industry and yet being unable to procure steady employment.

While this problem exists even in the construction industry, we at the National Heavy Equipment Operators School take every possible step to assure you that you will not have to succumb to it. For starters, the training program at National is second to none; ours is a comprehensive two-part course that covers a wide variety of heavy equipment models and gives you the preparation and knowledge to operate them effectively. Additionally, National is the only accredited heavy equipment training facility in the United States. This means that a certificate of completion from National carries with it a certain weight; employers are familiar with and respectful of the heavy equipment training that National provides.

National is also intricately involved in the construction and heavy equipment industry, and thus we are able to assist our graduates in finding immediate employment far more effectively than other agencies or programs. Upon starting the resident portion of our heavy equipment-training program, students fill out pre-hire applications and have them distributed to their employers of choice while they are still training. Construction opportunities are abundant throughout the nation, from urban construction to rural highway renovation. National has ties to numerous companies and agencies across the United States, and we can help you find the best employment fit once you complete your training.

Once National helps you to get your foot in the door in the construction industry, you can rest assured that employment opportunities will be steady for the foreseeable future. Conservative estimates have the visible construction boom holding steady until at least 2012, and given the seemingly endless number of construction projects visible throughout any metropolitan or rural area, it is likely to persist for much longer. When you consider that heavy equipment operators accounted for roughly ten percent of the approximately 6.7 million construction-related jobs in 2002, the importance of adequate training and job placement becomes even more evident. The program at National Heavy Equipment Operators School is just what you need to assure you of your future financial stability.

Yahoo! Does It Again But Were Not Sure What It Is!

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

If youve searched with Y! lately at least in some browsers you may have noticed a new addition to their search results page. If you use Netscape or Firefox, the upper right-hand corner of your search results page now holds an orange box that holds The Buzz. Yahoo!s Buzz Log has been around for a few years, but you used to have to go looking for it to find out what people were Buzzing about. Now Y! puts it in your face – and frankly, Im not sure what all its good for.

For those of you who arent up to speed on the Yahoo Buzz, heres a quick recap. Every day, Yahoo records all the searches that are entered on its pages. Over the next twenty four hours, those searches are indexed, tabulated, calculated and sorted, and the next day 48 hours later Y! publishes the Buzz Index in a number of different forms. Want to know what was on peoples minds two days ago? You can get a quick snapshot by checking todays Buzz Index page. Theres a Buzz Index for entertainment, movies, music, sports, movie stars and overall. But whats it all mean? Here it is straight from the horses mouth:

A subject’s buzz score is the percentage of Yahoo! users searching for that subject on a given day, multiplied by a constant to make the number easier to read. Weekly leaders are the subjects with the greatest average buzz score for a given week.

So its an index of the most popular searches on Yahoo! The Buzz publishes daily, weekly and monthly stats, so you can track trends over time. You can even get a subscription to the Yahoo Buzz Index and personalize it with customized search terms but those dont show up in your search results page when you do a searchyou have to go to your Buzz Index page for them. What does show up is the top ten general daily searches. In fact, for today, no matter what Im actually searching for, heres what I get in that little box:

1.pussycat dolls
2.NFL draft grades
3.the ultimate fighter
4.may 1 boycott
5.Madonna tickets
6.Howard stern
7.Chinese astrology
8.project runway
9.Terence Howard
10.Bahamas hotels

So exactly what is the point of plopping that orange box in one of the prime pieces of SERP real estate? It doesnt tell me anything relevant to my search (I searched for test scores, for nursing degrees and for consumer index). If I click on one of the ranked items, it feeds me the search results for that term. If I click on More Buzz at the bottom, it takes me to the Buzz Index where I can read the latest blog entry.

To make it even more useless, the Buzz box only works in a few browsers. In the others, theres either a blank column or the Sponsor Results which at least are contextually related to what Im searching. Wheres the value added? About the only thing that it does is clutter up a space that could be used so much more profitably.

Now if Y! wanted to actually make this thing useful, here are a few suggestions.

First make it contextually sensitive. If I type in a search for tests, Id find a list of related popular searches a WHOLE lot more useful than knowing that most of America is searching for info on the Pussycat Dolls two days ago.

Second, never mind the ranking give me the numbers! How many people searched for Pussycat Dolls? Maybe its something I should know about, hmm?

Third move it! I dont refer to that place as prime real estate for nothing. The upper right hand corner of your browser is one of the first places the eye lands on a page. Its one of the reasons that you put important things in that space when youre designing your pages. Why waste it?

Best Beds and Mattresses for Back Pain

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

Beds and mattresses play a very important role in the keeping your back in good shape. After a day full of twists and turns, and bending and straightening, your back requires good rest. Beds and mattresses that do not support the back properly can add to the back strain, besides, affecting the quality of sleep.

You can find a large variety of beds and mattresses on the market. Selecting the right kind is a matter of choice, but for patients of back pain, it is necessary that they follow the guidelines given below.

Selecting the Best Beds and Mattresses

It is important for people suffering from back pain to opt for beds and mattresses that support their back and not put it under additional stress or strain. Not much research has been done on the type of beds and mattresses required for patients with back pain. However, it is seen that adjustable beds suit people with back pain better. The angle of inclination can be adjusted to a position where the patient feels most comfortable. Patients suffering from degenerative spondylolisthesis do benefit from an inclined bed with support under the knees. They can tuck in enough pillows or cushions under the knees and adjust the angle of inclination to provide comfort to the painful back. The mattress should be neither too hard nor soft. A firm mattress will provide the support needed for a bad back.

Patients with an osteoarthritic spine stand to benefit from adjustable beds and mattress that are supportive. It is important for such patients to wake up with a relaxed back, since people suffering from osteoarthritic spine normally get up from bed with a very stiff spine.

Normal beds and mattresses for patients with spinal stenosis tend to deteriorate their condition further. Such people are more comfortable bending forward than keeping their back upright. As such, flat beds and mattresses are not suitable for their condition. An adjustable bed can be inclined at an angle that stimulates a forward bending position. A firm mattress will support the spinal stenosis back well.

Top 10 Tips For Writing A Good Press Release

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

Writing a press release doesn’t need to be difficult. Here are 10 tips for writing a successful press release.

1 – You are writing for journalists
Press releases
aren’t for customers or consumers they are for reporters, journalists who will use them as a starting point for a larger story or feature. Write your story as you would like to have it told. Press releases written as sales pieces will be completely ignored. The points you make in your press release and the order in which you make them may direct the journalist in how to develop the story.

2 - Start with a strong “lead”
The first paragraph of the press release is known as the “lead”. The lead needs to be strong, communicating your message quickly and concisely. You need to use your headline and first paragraph effectively so that they standalone and that if only those portions were to be read, there would be enough information to understand what the release is about. The rest of your press release should provide the detail. Journalists see maybe thousands of press releases a day, you have a few seconds to grab your their attention.

3 – What is your angle?
The media are always on the look out for a good story. Your press release needs to be more than just. fact, it needs to be newsworthy. Understanding why journalists would find your story interesting is the key to success. Think about the release from the journalist’s point of view, put yourself in their shoes. It is best to make your press release timely and to tie it to current events or social issues if possible. Find a good angle, a good news hook and you have the start of a good press release.

4 – Who, what, where, when and why
A good press release needs to answer all of the “W” questions (who, what, where, when and why), providing the journalist with useful information about your organization, product, service or event. If your press release reads like an advertisement or sales pitch, dump it.

5 – Why should anyone care?
Company launches, new websites and changes of management happen all the time and so aren’t interesting. You need to concentrate on what makes your new company, web site, CEO or product unique. Ask yourself the question, “Why should anyone care?” Concentrate on the aspects of your press release that makes it different.

6 – Add the human touch
Always use real life stories about how your organization identified a problem and solved it. How did your service or product fulfil a need or help the community. Real life examples communicate the benefits of using your product or service in a powerful way.

7 – Keep to the point
Use enough words to tell your story, no more and no less. Don’t pad your release with unnecessary adjectives or flowery language. But at the same time make each word count.

8 – Limit the jargon
The best way to communicate your news is to speak plainly. You may need to use some jargon or industry specific lingo, but limit it to the minimum. Industry specific terms are only understood by people in the same industry where as your press release is aimed at a general readership.

9 – Add an “About” section
Make sure you add an “About” section where you describe your company and services. This will be useful for setting the press release in a context. Don’t forget to add the URL of your website.

10 – Add good contact information
If a journalist picks up on your press release they will want to talk with you. Just adding your website URL isn’t enough. As a minimum you need to add a contact name and an email address. Even better add a phone number where you can be contacted.

Does Your Business Need CCTV?

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

Is your business suffering from crime, or are you worried that you havent done enough to protect it? There are many different security measures you can take to ensure that your business, your stock, your employees and your customers are safe, and one of these is by installing a CCTV system.

Were used to seeing CCTV operations in our streets and in our shops, perhaps even in the place where we work, but would you put it in your business, and if so, why?

Peace of mind

Whether you have been the target of vandals or have experienced robbery or attacks, you need a security system that gives you peace of mind. Whilst a CCTV system cant always stop an attack, it can be a deterrent and it can provide valuable evidence that helps to identify the perpetrator, or to give the police a better idea about what took place. The knowledge that a CCTV system could make a would-be burglar change his or her mind or capture their face on tape if they decide to go ahead is the reason that many people invest in CCTV systems

Adaptable

Unlike many other security measures, CCTV is adaptable. This means you can start off with a small, relatively basic system and add cameras and monitors as and when you need to. You can decide to have static cameras in strategic places and remote-controlled cameras elsewhere. A good CCTV supplier can help to tailor a package that fits your needs.

Protects your staff and your customers

Your staff may have been subject to attack or verbal abuse, and your customers may not feel safe in your store and so your sales drop. A visible CCTV camera helps to protect your most important assets your employees and your customers. For example, a monitored system could pick up the signs of trouble before anything actually occurs and staff can take immediate action.

Its worth considering whether you and your business could benefit from the installation of a CCTV system.

Green Tea and Cholesterol facts

Friday, December 30th, 2011

A green? and lush oasis in the middle of a scorching dessert. A cool breeze on a hot summer night. A bright light in the end of a cold and dark tunnel. Green tea and cholesterol.

For the millions and millions of people suffering from high cholesterol green tea may be that light. You can browse and search the Internet for topics on green tea and cholesterol and would come up with hundred of hits.

Cholesterol, triglycerides, the protein apoB in LDLs, are words dreaded by humans of the modern age. This new century is expected to become the century of medical miracles, the green tea, lowly as it may sound looks very promising as several researches have shown. This could be the decade of green tea and cholesterol.

More good news is it’s not just green tea and cholesterol; it’s also green tea and cancer. Several studies have shown that the antioxidants are present in green tea. The Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study indicating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent. Another research done by the University of Purdue researchers recently concluded that a compound in green tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells. In another study by the University of Kansas determined that EGCG may explain why the rate of heart disease among Japanese men is quite low, even though approximately seventy-five percent are smokers.

And more good news! It’s not just green tea and cholesterol; it’s also green tea and high blood pressure. Habitually drinking 5 to 10 cups a day of green tea lowers high blood pressure.

For more that 4,000 years the Chinese have known about the medicinal benefits of green tea since using it to treat everything from headaches to depression. So it’s not just green tea and cholesterol; it’s also green tea and depression!

Drinking green also is reported to be helpful with rheumatoid arthritis, Cardiovascular disease, infection, and impaired immune function.

Green tea is rich in catechin polyphenols, especially epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a good anti-cancer element. Polyphenol limits the negative effects of smoking and a fatty diet.

There’s more! It’s not just green tea and cholesterol; it’s also green tea and weight loss. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a report that found out that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea extract burned more calories than those given only caffeine.

How about green tea and tooth decay anyone? Its bacteria-destroying abilities kill the bacteria that cause dental decay. So it’s not just green tea and cholesterol, it’s also green tea and bacteria.

Why is it that it’s green tea and cholesterol not oolong tea or black tea? As we all know there are 3 types of tea, green, oolong and black. All of these come from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. But why green? Green tea leaves are steamed, which prevents the EGCG compound from being oxidized while black and oolong tea leaves are made from dried or fermented leaves, which causes loss of EGCG.

We should have learned speaking mandarin or fukien a long time ago and got to know green tea and cholesterol lowering the Chinese way.

There is more to green tea and cholesterol, search the web and get to know more of the heath benefits you may get from green tea. Does anyone know how to say green tea in Chinese?

Quit Smoking and Improve Other People’s Health

Friday, December 30th, 2011

Nowadays, smoking is considered a major epidemic because of the ill-effects it brings to millions of people who use tobacco. Smoking affects many parts of the body and may contribute to the development of many ailments including cancer, respiratory ailments, and cardiovascular diseases. Smokers are also more likely to develop hardening of the arteries, bronchitis, shortness of breath, or emphysema. In addition, smokers are twice as likely to experience heart attack compared to a non-smoker. Because of these health effects many health drives are focused on the need to quit smoking. However, despite the ill-effects of smoking many individuals are still engaged in this dreaded habit.

The Fear Of Criticism

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

So many times in life we would like to try something new. Like a new sport, different style haircut, changing clothing or loosing weight. But are afraid to try because of the criticism we might receive from others because of our change. Over time we have been brainwashed into believing other people’s opinions and think they hold more weight then our own feelings. We don not want to be judged. If you want to break old habits you must not be controlled by outside people. You must have inner control.

This is your life!

There is nothing wrong with a little criticism. You just have to be able to decipher between the truths. Listen for it. Ask yourself if there is any truth to what someone is saying. Do they know what they are talking about? If you feel they are after careful consideration then use their feedback to improve. If your intuition tells you they are full of it then disregard it! Be true to your self and only accept opinions that hold truths!

Don’t be afraid to have criticisms of your self. But make sure they are your own opinions and not someone elses. If you don not like something about yourself then change it. Always look to improve.

Sometimes our own criticisms are tainted. This goes back to being brainwashed. Others have fed us information over the years that might have be tainted and have altered our thoughts over the years. Since we were not trying to decipher between the truth, our thoughts have turned into a messy desk where you can not find the paper you want. It is time to clean up the mess of criticism and restructure. This is the only way you will be able to change you habits and better your life.

Stress: Inevitable But Treatable

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

Lifestyle in the 21st century is very stressful. Stress nowadays is not only overwhelming but it can pose a serious effect on one’s health. Almost everyone knows how it feels like to be stressed, stomachaches, headaches, and sweaty palms are all symptoms of this condition. These are normal body reactions to threats, changes in routines, or challenges. Chronic or prolonged stress caused by work, relationship problems, or financial concerns may hamper emotional balance and increase the risk of chronic illness. Ongoing stress may increase the chances that certain ailments may develop. In addition, chronic stress may weaken the immune system and make it more susceptible to many forms of infections. Stress however, is an inevitable part of life and may cause one to be physically and emotionally drained.

A Guide to Agency Nursing in the UK

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

The NHS, as an institution, is one of the largest employers in the UK, if not the World, with responsibility for a large budget totalling billions of pounds. Most nurses in the United Kingdom are either working for or have worked for the NHS in the past 5 years.

Employer/Employee relations within the NHS are generally neutral with many nurses considering themselves to be underpaid for the work that they do. This pushes nurses towards Nursing Agencies to top up their salaries, forcing Trusts to pay.higher salaries to cover absence and sickness.

Nurses do have choice when it comes to doing extra hours:-

Join the local Trusts Nurse Bank This is convenient to most nurses as they are more in control of the work that they can get. However nurse banks generally offer low rates of pay and dont have the required infrastructure to be effective in the placement of nurses. Nurses tend to be a number on a Data base.

Join a Nursing Agency this gives nurses the opportunity to experience different working environments and at the same time benefiting from much higher rates of pay. Some agencies will pay for one 10 hour shift the same as nurse banks pay for a 20 hour shift. There is no guarantee that you will get the work that you are looking for but when you do you will get paid quickly for the work you do.

Do neither of the above This of course is a loss to the NHS. Nurses that choose this option will generally only be tempted to do extra work with the offer of good hourly pay rates.
Nursing Agencies in the UK fall into two clear groups:-

They are signed up to the NHS National Framework Agreement These agencies have agreed contractual terms with the NHS to provide nurses at a fixed rate of pay. This rate of pay has been known to be lower than the NHSs own agency, NHS Professionals and some of the local Nurse Banks. This has neutralised the benefits of this contract and has forced a number of agencies to withdraw from the Framework Agreement. Agencies signed up to this agreement need to be operating a scaled up business which has the effect of increasing costs but without realising the profits from the NHS. A number of high profile agencies have called in receivers as the money owed to them by the NHS had not been paid forcing their Bankers to call in the invoices.

Nursing Agencies operating outside of the NHS Framework These agencies tend to work more in the private sector or on more specialised placements in the NHS such as ITU, Paediatrics, CCU, HDU, Theatre. Recovery, Renal Dialysis, Mental Health, Occupational Health and Practice Nursing. They tend to have a broader mix of placements available at higher rates of pay.
For further information on Agency work available in the UK please go to www.team24.co.uk or call 0871 288 2424.

Stopping Foreclosure How To Stop Home Foreclosures

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

Its easy to get behind on your bills. It happens even to the best of us sometimes. When it comes to mortgage payments though, getting behind can mean risking your homes foreclosure. The best way to stop foreclosures is to avoid getting behind on your mortgage payments in the first place, but when circumstances prevent you from paying on time, what can you do? Where can you go?

The first thing to be sure to do, is be open and honest about whats going on. Dont try to hide from your lender, or ignore them. This will just give them reason to believe that you arent going to pay them back. You need to contact them and be open and honest about your financial situation.

Lenders do not want to foreclose. It is only a last resort for when they feel that you will not be able to pay them any other way. There are a few things you can do to stop foreclosure.

1)Reinstatement This is when you negotiate to reinstate your behind payments by promising to repay later a lump sum to get back on track with your regular payment plan.

2)Forbearance This is when you are allowed to hold off on payments for awhile with a plan for later getting back on track with your payments.

3)Modification of the Mortgage This is when the mortgage is re-negotiated for a new workable payment plan financed over a longer period of time and often smaller regular payments.

4)Selling your Home This means losing your home, but it can certainly mean getting more money for your home than if you had a foreclosure. You would be given a time period to sell your home in order to pay off the rest of your loan to get out of debt.

5)Deed in Lieu of Foreclosure This is when the lender and you agree that you will give up your home, and they will forgive the debt. This does not look good on your credit history, nor does it allow you to keep your home, but it is still much better than a foreclosure.

All of these foreclosure stopping methods depend on what your financial situation is in the present, what potential it has for the future, and whether you can negotiate a workable plan with your lender. Its best to get all your financial documents in order, so that you can present your best possible case to your lender. If they see that there is good potential for you to pay them back, then they will certainly be willing to negotiate with you. You may end up paying higher interest rates over a longer period of repayment, but its certainly worth it if you can keep your home.

If you need help in the negotiation process, or getting your financial records in order to plead your case, there are many financial advisors that specialize in helping to stop foreclosures. Financial advisors can be your savior if you dont know where to start when it comes to negotiations. If you are going to seek an advisor for help, be sure that they are working on results. That means dont pay them any fees up front. Foreclosure advisors that know what theyre doing, will only take payment if they do the job for you successfully.

Air Purifiers

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

Breathing is something that is vital to life. It is something we all do and need to do constantly to enable us to live. If you are not doing it now then Im sorry but you cannot continue to read this, as you are dead.

This article is not about breathing though; it is about what we breathe. Well, that is obvious, air. Yep, but let us, for a minute, think about what may be in the air we breathe.

Apart from the components of air such as oxygen, which is the bit we need, the air you breathe is full of other particles and you need to think about an air purifier to filter these potentially harmful particles out of the air or in other words purify the air. I am sure you have seen sunlight coming through you windows and when you are at a certain angle you have seen dust particles floating in the air. You breathe these in unless you can use an air purifier to remove them or hopefully most of them. Its not only dust though, people and animals drop flakes of dead skin which is why you need an air purifier. Tobacco smoke produces particles of smoke, which is why you need an air purifier, and vehicles also produce particles of smoke from their engines, which is why you need an air purifier.

So what do air purifiers do? Quite simply they filter the air that you breathe near to them. They help to purify the air and remove airborne particles. There are many different types of air purifiers and these can be systems designed to purify all the air in your entire house down to small systems which work in a single room. They filter out all sorts of things such as smoke, dust and particles of dust and dead skin from your pets. Just remember though, they cannot filter out all particles but they can purify the air fairly well.

There is another type of air purifier, the HEPA type which can filter out particles down to 3 microns in size and can catch 99.9% of these particles. HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance purifiers.

There are also ozone air purifiers but some people have suggested that these may not be good for you. I do not have the answer to this but until I am convinced of their usefulness, I will stick to an HEPA filter.

Before you buy your air purifier you need to make sure it suits your needs so make sure you carry out internet research and check manufacturers brochures. Whatever you decide though, there is nothing to beat having a look at one and seeing it operating before you buy. Remember, there is nothing worse than buying an air purifier only to find out it is so noisy that you cannot be in the same room when your air purifier is operating.

How To Make A Vegan Cake

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

Do you have a strict vegan in the family who has a birthday or celebration coming up that traditionally calls for cake? If youre not familiar with vegan dietary practices, you might not know what vegans do not eat. Even worse, you might have no idea how to replace what they do not eat.

But don’t worry. In a few short paragraphs, Ill explain exactly what you need to make the perfect cake for your vegan friend or relative. And best of all, no one will be able to taste the difference.

Lets start with what strict vegans do not eat. They do not eat eggs. They do not drink milk. They dont eat certain types of sugar. They dont eat butter. And they dont eat frosting.

Eggs can be replaced by “EnerG Egg Replacer,” which you can purchase at many grocery stores. The box will explain
how much replacer to use per egg.

Cows milk can be replaced by organic rice milk, which doesnt contain any animal byproducts. You can buy rice milk at your local grocery store, too.

Many vegans do not consume sugar, either, because it is often whitened by animal bone char. You can avoid sugar that is whitened by bone char by purchasing “unbleached” sugar, sugar in the raw, or beet sugar. There are some cane sugars, too, which were not whitened using bone char, but they hard to distinguish from others, unless you know the exact name brand.

Strict vegans will not eat food made with butter, either. If your cake recipe calls for butter, you can simply replace it with margarine or vegetable shortening.

In addition to butter, sugar, milk, and eggs, strict vegans also will not eat dairy frosting. If your recipe calls for frosting, you can look for a similar flavor of “non-dairy” frosting or you can make your own, replacing butter with margarine.

And there you have it: an ingredient replacement key for your vegan cake. Simply follow the key, replace vegan-unfriendly items on your recipe, and your cake will be perfectly fit for even the strictest vegetarian!

Successful Baseball Betting

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

The season.of MLB baseball is a long one, thanks to each team playing 162 games, and its filled to the brim with opportunity. The successful baseball bettor can make an excellent profit over the course of a season. Picking winners in MLB baseball is done by a simple win or lose wager. There are no point spreads in major league baseball. Baseball bettors can utilize the run line to minimize money line amounts. So how does one win successful over the course of a MLB season? Lets take a look at a couple key ideas.

Run Line

Betting on baseball involves picking the winner on the money line. For example, if you liked the favorite and they were – $2.50, you would bet $2.50 for each $1 you want to win. Should you love the underdog and they are + 2.15, you would receive $2.50 for every dollar wagered.

Sometimes you really like a favorite, but the money is far too high. Betting on $2.00 or larger favorites is not really the way to build up your bankroll. If you just have to bet the team, consider betting them on the run line. By giving up the 1.5 runs (so your team must win by 2 or more runs), you will greatly decrease the money line. If your selection is truly a good team, compared to the opponent, they will have s very good shot of winning on the run line.

Pitchers

You must know your pitchers to win in MLB baseball long-term. Thats a concrete fact and theres no way around. In MLB Baseball, the pitcher is the dominant force. A solid pitcher can completely control the game and turn a decent team into a powerhouse for one game. Most sports bettors fail, because they name bet. This is when you bet on a team based on the name and reputation of the pitcher instead of looking at all the underlying stats related to the specific game.

Instead of betting on pitcher just because of his name, heres a short list of a couple pieces of information you want to gather and compare to the opposing pitcher.

1.What is his record against the other team (give extra weight to recent games)?
2.What is his teams record again the other team when he pitches?
3.How does he pitch at the location the game is at?
4.How many innings does he normally pitch? What about against this opponent?
5.Has the pitcher been nursing any injuries lately or is he coming back from one?

Thats five general questions you need to ask. There are more, but these are good to get started with.

Managers and Scoring

Its good to know your managers. More importantly, know what their playing strategy is. For example, does the manager love to play small ball or does he play for solid hits and home runs? If the manager does not like to play small ball and is lacking power hitters and very solid OBP (on base percentage guys), scoring will be hit and miss. Managers that love to play small ball and have a fair number of guys with a good average and OBP will score runs fairly consistently. This does not mean they will win, but you can usually count on these teams to score a few runs on any given day.

Now, lets put it together. If you have a pitcher who generally gives up 7-8 hits and 1-2 walks a game and has a low ERA going against a small ball type team with a good number of players with solid OBP numbers, what do you think will happen? That pitcher is going to, potentially, give up some runs. However, if he is facing a more hit & homer type team, he could potentially freeze them out of runs.

There are many more aspects to look at, but these three areas are critical to selecting baseball winners. Winning long-term is not just about picking winners, its also about getting good value on your wagers.

What’s In Your Personal Care Items

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

There are already numerous articles written on the hazards of chemicals in personal care products. Even Senator Edward Kennedy has written several letters to Congress regarding the health risks associated with using cosmetics that contain cancer-causing ingredients.

Personal care products that have been taught to be beneficial to you may be the very ones that may contain chemicals that is posing a serious threat to you and your family’s health.

Believe it. Personal care products like soap, shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, and make-up usually contain cheap, synthetic chemicals and ingredients that are suspiciously harmful. . There are in fact more than 125 ingredients used on the skin suspected of causing cancer. 20 cause adverse nervous system reactions. And 25 are connected to birth defects. What you put on your skin penetrates and can enter your body.

Here are some things that the labels do not tell you about personal care products.

Fragrances. Just because it smells good doesn’t mean it is. Oftentimes, the first things a consumer does when trying a personal care product is to smell it. If the product smells good the consumer is much more likely to want the product.

Oftentimes also, the label on the product gives the illusion that the scent is natural. A picture used in the product will lead to the conclusion that it must have come from that source.

More often than not, this is simply not the case. Most fragrances are of synthetic origin. Fragrance on a label can indicate the presence of up to four thousand separate ingredients; many are toxic chemicals that cause or contribute to cancer. Manufacturers are not required to disclose the individual ingredients as they are considered trade secrets of their personal care products.

Reported symptoms are headaches, dizziness, allergic rashes, skin discoloration, violent coughing and vomiting, and skin irritation. Clinical observation shows that the chemicals on the fragrances of these beauty products can affect the central nervous system, causing depression, hyperactivity, irritability, inability to cope, and other behavioral changes.

It is therefore understandable why some countries have declared many scented products to be hazardous to public health. And have even gone to the extreme of banning the wearing of all cosmetic fragrances in most indoor public places.

Color Pigments. As with smell, looks can also be deceiving. Just because it looks pretty doesn’t mean it is.

Color pigments are used to make the product look attractive. It does not really serve any beneficial purpose for any part of the body. Color pigments found in personal care products are made from synthetic and chemical ingredients such as coal tar. They also contain heavy metal salts that deposit toxins onto the skin, causing skin sensitivity and irritation.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) & Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES). You will find these ingredients in almost all cleansers that foam. These chemicals are even used in car washes, garage floor cleaners and engine degreasers.

Research indicates that Sodium Lauryl Sulfate causes inflammation of the skin and can weaken the immune system. Young eyes will not develop properly if exposed to SLS because proteins are dissolved. Be alert about these chemicals especially on baby shampoos.

Triclosan. The EPA registers Triclosan as a pesticide and is classified as a chlorophenol, a class of chemicals suspected of causing cancer in humans. Triclosan is so toxic it is measured in parts per trillion. These chemicals are the same ones used on personal care products as they are known for their antibacterial ingredient. Most often found in soaps and toothpastes.

How to show how harmful these chemicals are; one drop of Triclosan in 300 Olympic-sized swimming pools can cause hormonal disruption.

Mineral Oil. A petroleum by-product that coats the skin like plastic and clogs the pores. It interferes with the skin’s ability to eliminate toxins thus promoting acne and other disorders. It slows down skin function and cell development.

Where can you find mineral oil in its largest portion? Baby Oil. Note that Baby Oil is 100% mineral oil.

Contrary to what people believe, it is possible to create personal care products without the use of any harmful chemicals. The answers and solutions are found in nature. All it takes is study, research and a sincere desire to meet the health needs of consumers equally with profit needs.

Consider very carefully the health risks associated with exposing yourself to harmful chemicals and make it your resolve to no longer buy questionable personal care products from companies that have little regard for your health.

Chicago Cubs Pitcher Mark Prior Re-signs

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

After many trips through the rumor mill, Mark Prior accepted the Chicago Cubs offer on January 27 to a one-year, $3.65 million contract. That is $900,000 more than the salary he would have earned under the contract he voided in November. Since Prior’s definitive season in 2003 (18-6), he has cooled off somewhat, and has only managed to go 17-11 over the past two seasons. The Cubs were within five outs of reaching the World Series in 2003, due, in part, to Prior’s performance. A sore elbow put him on the disabled list early last season, and when he entered the normal rotation again, he was hit on the same elbow by a scorching line drive. He finished the 2005 season going 11-7 with a 3.67 ERA over 27 games.

The Chicago Cubs pitcher, whose name has been mentioned as possible trade bait this off-season, said that he was not too upset at the rumors because he figured they were just that — rumors. Rumor had it that he was going to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for outfielder Bobby Abreu, but that wasn’t to be. During the holidays, he was supposed to be traded to Baltimore for shortstop Miguel Tejada. That also did not happen. “It’s part of the game,” Prior said. “Obviously, when somebody requests a trade, a team has to look into it. I don’t really validate the rumors a whole lot unless I hear that ‘[general manager] Jim Hendry’ says or ‘[team president] Andy MacPhail says’ or ‘[manager] Dusty [Baker] says’ — otherwise, they’re just rumors. It seems like there are a lot of MLB sources this year. Unless somebody calls me up and says, ‘Hey, we’re serious about doing this,’ there’s not a whole lot for me to think about because I don’t have a whole lot to say.”

If the fans had any say in it, Prior would never wear another uniform besides his Cubs No. 22 jersey. When the right-hander was introduced to the crowd jammed inside the Grand Ballroom at the Hilton Chicago during opening ceremonies for the 21st Cubs Convention, he was greeted with the chant, “No trade, no trade.” Most Cubs fans remember that Prior’s 10 strikeouts in his very first start was the most by any Cubs pitcher in over 30 years. “I’ve never been ticked or anything,” Prior said. “I felt if anything was going to be done, somebody would’ve called me and said something. Otherwise, it was business as usual. I was obviously going to pitch for somebody this season, and I had to get ready.”

There was also a rumor that Prior decided to void the last year of his contract because he was angry at the Cubs. That also was not true. “That was something that was written in the contract,” he said of his ability to be eligible for arbitration. “That was in the negotiations five years ago. We felt it was fair at the time. It was basically the last two years [of the contract] – if I’m eligible for arbitration, I have the privilege to go to arbitration.” Prior will make more money in 2006 thanks to this foresight.

“I’ve been spending this off season trying to iron out some things and correct some habits that I fell into because of what happened with my elbow,” Prior said. “One thing I did learn, and after I’ve been reflecting, is how fortunate and valuable the time is when you’re healthy. At any moment, anything can happen. “The other day I was home watching [NFL quarterback] Drew Brees get hurt, and I see Carson Palmer go down two plays into the game. It’s a very fragile existence from that standpoint.” He’s well aware of the business side of baseball, too. “As far as everything I’ve heard, they weren’t dangling me out there and trying to get rid of me,” Prior said. He’d like to stay with the Cubs. “I love playing here. I have no desire to leave,” he said. “I love playing in the city of Chicago; I love this town. I don’t think I could’ve been as fortunate as I was to fall here out of college. Not too many people get the luxury of coming to a city like Chicago. It’s a great city, a great town and I love being here. It’s a great town to play baseball in.”

Prior had become arbitration eligible when he used his option to void the final year of his original contract signed in 2001. Under the original terms, he was to make $2.75 million this year. Prior had asked for $4 million, while the Cubs countered with an offer of $3.3 million. Arbitration arrived at the $3.65 million figure. “We’re certainly glad to have it done,” said Cubs general manager Jim Hendry. “Our stance is always to try to work with the representative, John Boggs, to a conclusion of fairness to avoid the process if we can. This was something we wanted to do, and hopefully Mark will have a great 2006.”

Other current Cubs arbitration-eligible players include infielder Jerry Hairston, outfielder Juan Pierre, and pitchers Will Ohman and Carlos Zambrano. Cubs general manager Jim Hendry and team president Andy MacPhail have never gone to arbitration with a player. Hendry said he is continuing to negotiate with the players’ representatives in hopes of reaching an agreement.

Players with at least three years seniority in the Major Leagues, plus the longest active 17 percent of those with between two and three years service, are eligible for salary arbitration. Mark Prior, for example, now has three years, 131 days of Major League service time.

How does arbitration work? Players and teams exchange figures, and if no agreement is reached between the two, the case is referred to an arbitrator. Pierre, 28, whom the Cubs acquired from the Florida Marlins for three Minor League pitchers, made $3.7 million in 2005. He is coming off a season in which he hit .276 with two homers, 47 RBIs and 57 stolen bases in 162 games. The center fielder asked for $6.5 million, while the Cubs offered $5 million.

Cubs pitcher Zambrano earned $3.76 million last season and led the Cubs in wins with 14. He established career highs in starts (33), innings pitched (223 1/3) and strikeouts (202). Zambrano asked for $7.2 million, while the Cubs countered with an offer of $6 million. In his first season with the Cubs, Hairston, 29, made $1.8 million last season. He batted .261, hit four homers, 25 doubles and had 30 RBI. Hairston requested $2.6 million in 2006, while the Cubs offered $1.95 million. Ohman, 28, is seeking $775,000, while the Cubs offered $500,000. Ohman, who has three years, 40 days of Major League service time, made $320,000 in 2005 in his return to the big leagues. The left-hander, who has spent much time on the disabled list because of three elbow surgeries, was 2-2 with a 2.91 ERA in 69 games.

The Plight of the Aging Drivers

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

Most adults, especially men, view their drivers license as a mark of independence. This independence stems from owning their first car as a teenager. While the automobile is a powerful tool for independence and mobility, it is also potentially dangerous. At what age somebody becomes too old to drive is a sensitive subject as losing a license affects people’s freedom and mobility. Many older people who are still very mentally agile are disconcerted by the fact that their means of getting around may disappear. A fear that they might led them to a change in their lifestyle.

How Are Fossils Formed?

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

How are fossils formed? For fossil formation to take place a series of fortunate events must occur. If any part of the series is missing, we will never see the fossil! In fact, fossilization is a rare occurrence. Nature tends toward recycling. That includes just about everything from plants and animals to rocks and minerals.

Lets narrow it down to just animals for a minute. Animals, dead or alive, are food for other animals. From insects to dinosaurs, an animal could be someones lunch! Any part of the animals body that isnt consumed is usually scattered about; leftovers! Just like those leftovers in your fridge, these leftovers make great food for bacteria. In addition, these leftovers are exposed to the elements: sun, rain, and even the soil itself all help to breakdown and decompose the sturdiest of bones, shells and wood.

If we are ever going to see a fossil, some very specialized events must intervene to ward off the natural process of decomposition. The following is the most common scenario for fossil formation:

How Are Fossils Formed? Death Is The First Step
To start with, an animal or plant must die in water or near enough to fall in shortly after death. The water insulates the remains from many of the elements that contribute to decomposition. An example may be helpful. Lets say that a trilobite has died of old age on the bottom of the sea. Bacteria consume the soft body parts but leave the hard exoskeleton intact.

How are fossils formed? Step two is Sedimentation
As time passes, sediments bury the exoskeleton. The faster this happens the more likely fossilization will occur. Land and mudslides definitely help. River deltas are also good for quick accumulation of sediments. This further insulates our trilobite from decomposition.

The sediments themselves have a huge influence on how well our trilobite fossil turns out. Very fine-grained particles, like clays, allow more detail in the future fossil. Course sediments, like sand, allow less detail to show. The chemical make up of the sediments also contributes to the future fossil. If iron is present, it may give the rock a reddish color. Phosphates may darken the rock to gray or black. The possibilities are truly endless.

Permineralization
As the sediments continue to pile on, the lower layers become compacted by the weight of the layers on top. Over time, this pressure turns the sediments into rock. If mineral-rich water percolates down through the sediments, the fossilization process has an even better chance of preserving our ancient animal. Some of the minerals stick to the particles of sediment, effectively gluing them together into a solid mass. These minerals make an impact on our original trilobite as well. Over the course of millions of years, they dissolve away the outer shell, sometimes replacing the molecules of exoskeleton with molecules of calcite or other minerals. In time, the entire shell is replaced leaving rock in the exact shape of the trilobite.

Uplift
As the continental plates move around the earth, crashing into each other, mountains are formed. Former sea floors are lifted up and become dry land. This is exactly what has happened to our trilobite. Now a fully formed fossil, our trilobite is buried under hundreds or even thousands of feet of rock! Thanks to the movement of the plates, our trilobite will come closer to the surface and nearer to discovery by some fortunate fossil hunter. Luckily, nothing stays the same.

Erosion at work
Rain, wind, earthquakes, freeze and thaw all work toward erosion. The mountains that were built up are worn away over time. Our fossil trilobite once again sees the light of day! With a little wisdom about where to look and some luck, you may be the first one to find him!

This is the fossilization process known as Permineralization. It is not the only answer to the question: “How Are Fossils Formed?” There are many other ways that fossils can be formed. You can read about them using the links below.
