Due to there being very few calories in cucumber I have been sticking to cucumber sandwiches for my lunch for the past couple of weeks. This was nice at first as I do like a bit of cucumber, however when you have the same thing every day for a while you do begin to tire of it. It always tastes a little better when it has something else in the sandwich to complement it, and by that I don’t mean some lettuce or tomato as they are just as bland. I would much rather some egg or meat or something in there with it. However, this is going to increase the calories found in the sandwich considerably, thus defeating the whole point of just having the cucumber in there in the first place. I also tried tomato on it’s own but that was even worse as the middle makes the bread go soggy.

I guess that I am just a guy who cares about his body a lot. I never thought that this would be an issue for me, but it truly is. I am about to embark upon a new journey to becoming a more fit person, so I am taking my before measurements to see what can happen in just a few months. I am quite excited about this. When I was told that a good way to control portions is by using kitchen scales, I really didn’t think it would make that much of a difference. I thought that I was doing alright even though I had slowly been gaining weight. It was only a pound here and two pounds there, but those began to add up after a few years. How can you use this concept to help you lose weight?
First, accept that you are probably overweight because of bad portion control. Many restaraunts and other prepared meals provide way more calories per meal than we need. While it is recommended that we have approximately 2000 calories per day, many of us could survive for some time with far fewer calories. How can you institute portion control and minimize caloric intake without having to turn your kitchen into a science lab?
Get used to using measuring cups. Many people never get in the habit of actually measuring and weighing their food before serving it. This means you are “eyeballing” your consumption. Remember, thousands of years ago we were lucky to eat once a day. Your brain is still used to getting all of the extra nutrition it can whenever it gets the chance. So while you may feel you just served yourself a sensible amount of mashed potatoes, you are probably about to absorb 600 calories. Now pour some gravy on it. Not good!
