I am happy that I married into a family who knows the value of money! My husband does not like to spend money at all. The Goo Goo Dolls is an American band originally named The Sex Maggots. However, a promoter refused to book them because of their name, which is an awkward name for me. A few hours before a scheduled gig, they needed a name for their group and so the trio named their group “Goo Goo Dolls”, a True Detective ad for a toy called a Goo Goo Doll. Sounds like a weird name for a band composed of boys, but, for some reason the name stuck with the crowd and the music lovers. As proof of their popularity is the consistent support of their fans and supporters. Everytime they have a gig or show, the Goo Goo Dolls tickets are always sold out or run out in seconds. Multitude of fans would always make advance reservations on the Goo Goo Dolls tickets just to be sure that they will be able to watch the band’s live performances anywhere in the country. 11

Not a lot of people realise, but the comedy club chain ‘The Highlight’ also now offers live music as well as stand up comedy. I found this out because they hosted one of the Bluetones farewell tour gigs last month. I’ve been a fan of the Bluetones since I was a young’un at school so I was desperate to secure a ticket to one of their last ever gigs. I was actually really impressed because the venue was a pretty intimate place to have a gig of this nature. I first saw the Bluetones at a similar sized venue in Manchester when they released their first album. It took me back! I mentioned it to a friend of mine who lives in Reading because I saw there was a ska night coming up at the Reading club and he loves ska. He already knew about it- and had tickets- so it’s good to know that word is spreading.

I’ve just had a look at the Highlight website to see what’s on near me in the next month and there’s a real mix of live music coming up. I like all sorts so I’m definitely going to be keeping an eye on their gigs. There’s a big band night in Glasgow which sounds fascinating. I also love the chance to have a bit of a boogie at a gig so that could be right up my street! I recommend their clubs for any kind of get together, be it a birthday party or a work get together. The comedy is ace too! Looks like they have well known bands on some nights and lesser known bands as well so I might well let friends of mine who are in a band know. It could be a great platform for them to get a gig and get seen.

Depending on what you are recording, you may want to set up your recording microphones to record in stereo. There are basically three ways of doing this. The first set-up is called X/Y and is when the two mics are set at 90degree angels from each other. With cardioid mics, you will get a very focused recording and the low end will have a tight response. If you are in a sound room that is a bit difficult to record in and you need to zone in on the best sound possible. When figure-8 mics are used this is called the Blumlein Technique. The second technique is called ORTF and uses 2 cardioid mics placed 17 centimetres apart at an angle of 110 degrees. This system works similarly to the X/Y system but with the microphones placed further back in the room. The most uncomplicated technique is the A/B technique wherein two mics are placed next to each other pointed straight at the source.

After all the years spent on the dating circuit, I finally feel able to say that I’ve won the game. Or at least, I’m as close to winning as is possible in my current situation. I’ve dated many a girl, and it took me a long time to connect with someone that I found attractive and respected enough to want to keep and get to know, and I finally found that girl. After 2 years of seeing her, and after 6 months of living together, I’ve popped the question. And, not too much of a surprise, she accepted We’re to be married in 12 months’ time, and I’m over the moon. Now I just need a wedding venue. Can anyone help with finding Charlotte wedding venues that are affordable and have a little chapel on the premises? That would be ideal for our needs, so any help is more than welcome.

The Gang Graduated

When the Boy Meets World gang graduated from high school, I had my doubts that the school could continue into the college years. The unexplained transfer of their teacher to their professor really helped the transition, even though it was a little awkward if you really think about it. But, the biggest thing the show suffered when the kids went to college was that their parents were less involved after graduation. Cory’s dad, played by William Russ, and his mom stopped being such a presence, and I guess that’s how college is in real life, but I missed the parental units on the show. I missed the whole familial aspect. I guess, again, your friends kind of stand in for your family when you go to college, but sitcoms aren’t supposed to emulate real life. At least not that closely. It’s too close for comfort if you ask me. I went to college and I see my parents every day.
